The Fourth Annual Short Story Writing Contest
Do not just write for the drawer but participate in the fourth short story writing contest and submit your work! Last year, more than 300 Hungarian and international students took part but Doug Rudnicki, the organizer of the contest hopes to have even more participants this year!

When: March 26, 2009, 7-8 p.m.
Rules for Short Story Writing Contest
Eligibility:
Open to students living in Hungary, ages 12 to 18, who read and write in English.
Judging will be based upon the following:
1. quality of unity, coherence, details, and creativity
2. quality of grammar, vocabulary, and spelling.
Note: To avoid influencing the judges, please remove your name from all pages.
Note: all decisions by the judges are final.
Format:
The fictional short story must not be longer than five (5) typed pages, double spaced (1250 words), Times New Roman, size 12 font. Any entry failing to abide by these guidelines will be rejected.
Where to submit entry:
Your entry will be assigned a number by the director of the contest. All entries must include the writer's name, age, address, phone number, and his or her email address, on a separate page. You may only enter one story.
Please remove your name from all other pages.

Save a copy of your work:entries will be shredded after the contest, so no originals will be returned.
ELIGIBILITY OF ENTRIES: All entries must be entirely the original work of the entrant, in English, typewritten, and have not been published elsewhere or submitted in connection with any other contest. Written entries must be suitable for publication and must not contain any content or material which (i) infringes upon or otherwise violates the copyright, trademark, trade secret, or other intellectual property or proprietary rights of any person or entity, (ii) is defamatory or obscene or constitutes an invasion of privacy, (iii) is unlawful, or (iv) would reasonably cause harm or injury of any kind to any person or entity.
By submitting their work, entrants agree that it is their original creation.
To repeat: Be creative, and use your own ideas, not anyone else's. We cannot be held responsible for plagiarism in submissions. Any entry that we suspect to be plagiarized will be disqualified.
Winner Selection Process: All eligible entries will be read and judged by a selected group of volunteers. The judging panel is comprised of parents and teachers from various international schools, and university professors.
It is understood by both entrants and judges that fiction is a creative art and therefore is subjective in nature. Entries will be judged on the following equally weighted criteria: 1) originality of story concept, 2) writing skill, and 3) successful use of the elements of fiction.
Prizes:
Winners from International schools will (in junior-12-14, intermediate-15-16, and Senior 16-17 age categories):
• receive a cash prize (1st $1OO, 2nd $5O, and 3rd $25)
Winners from Hungarian schools will (in junior-12-14, intermediate-15-16, and Senior 16-17 age categories):
• receive a cash prize (1st $1OO, 2nd $5O, and 3rd $25)
All participants will:
• receive a participation certificate from The United States Embassy.
• attend an awards ceremony held at The American International School of Budapest. Prizes will be awarded by the U.S.
