Asian/Pacific-American Heritage: Diversity, Immigration, Stereotypes

Interested in learning more about immigration, diversity and the stereotypes Asian Americans face in the United States? Join C.N. Le, founder of the website Asian Nation and professor of sociology and Asian studies at the University of Massachusetts, for a webchat in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Le will discuss his website and his work and answer your questions in this text-only webchat.

C.N. Le is a Vietnamese American, but his site looks at issues and stereotypes affecting all Asian Americans. Asian Americans come from many different traditions, and they contribute to the United States' cultural diversity while being as "American" as any other citizens, Le says. USA Today's Web guide claims: "Le's excellent site is a great place to consider what it means — demographically, politically, culturally, historically — -to be part of the Asian-American community." Le sees Asian/Pacific-American Heritage Month as an opportunity to "share in the accomplishments of all Asian Americans before me."

If you would like to participate in this webchat, please go to
https://statedept.connectsolutions.com/asianpacific. No registration is needed. Simply choose "Enter as a Guest," type in your preferred screen name, and join the discussion. We accept questions and comments in advance of, and at any time during, the program.
